SHS students bring “And Then There Were None” to the stage

There is only one day until opening night of Springfield High School’s annual fall play!

This year’s play is And Then There Were None, written by Agatha Christie in 1939.

And Then There Were None is a show that takes place in England during the 1930’s. Ten people are trapped on an island after being accused of murdering someone at some point in their lives.

Seniors Evan Weller and Nicolette Owens practice their lines in between scenes.

One by one, the characters are found dead in the house, leaving the remaining characters to wonder the cause of each of the sudden deaths.

Out of the long list of options for this year’s play, student director Emma Shafer chose And Then There Were None from the strong sentimental feeling that reminded her of her time at Iles Elementary School. In 5th grade, Iles students read And Then There Were None as a class. In hopes of rekindling that precious memory, Shafer plans on making this show come alive with her hand picked cast.

“When I was in auditions, I saw potential in each of them and this awesome character in each of them,” Shafer said. She went on to explain that every cast member has made great progress in creating a fully developed character.

One of the biggest things that everyone involved in the fall play looks forward to is coming back or joining the theatre community.

“Being apart of a community, that every type of person is involved in is such an amazing and special thing that is hard to come by,” senior Devon Swafford, who plays Dr. Armstrong, said.

Through multiple rehearsals, the cast members connect with one another on a deeper level. Not only are they all ecstatic for creating a new family, they are just happy to be able to perform. For some of the casts members it is their first time participating in a show, while for others this show is something they have been looking forward to.

Come watch And Then There Were None and support all of the people that are working so hard to showcase their version of the play!

With its mysteriousness and eeriness, it is sure to provide a memorable experience. Do not miss this once in a lifetime opportunity to go out and see these unique characters.

“This is an exciting show, it is different from anything else. It is not like stereotypical theatre,” Shafer said.

Come out and see And Then There Were None on Friday, Nov. 11 and  Saturday, Nov. 12 at 7:30pm and Sunday, Nov. 13 at 2:30pm in the Schnirring Auditorium!
